Recently, Google launched augmented reality (AR) shopping experiences to let consumers see how products look on them before they buy, allowing shoppers to feel more confident in their decision and increase the likelihood of a purchase.
Google’s virtual try-on feature aims to bring the experience of in-store shopping to the digital landscape. For clothing, the AR tool can take a clothing image and accurately reflect how it would drape, fold, cling, stretch and form wrinkles and shadows on a diverse set of real models in various poses.
For beauty products, shoppers simply click the try button, then select a virtual model that reflects the shopper’s skin tone and hair coloring.
While the program is still in beta testing, Google has also added AR shopping experiences for home furnishings.
Considering the success of these beta tests, it’s only a matter of time before shoppers will be able to upload their own images and try on or place items on themselves or in rooms of their home.
Image SEO and data markup will be more important than ever for the new refinement capabilities, so it’s key to make sure all images are properly optimized.
