Google has announced a significant shift in how business information is surfaced on Search and Maps by sunsetting the Google Business Profile Q and A section. For years the Questions and Answers feature was a direct way for potential customers to ask questions on your listing and for you or the public to respond. It was a resource many business owners assumed would always be there. Now Google is phasing it out with specific timing that every business owner should understand.
Q and A Removal Timeline
The first part of this transition has already happened. November 3, 2025, Google officially discontinued the Q and A API. This means third party tools and automated systems can no longer access, post or manage Q and A content programmatically. The API shutdown marks the first step in the removal process and impacts agencies, software platforms and any workflow that relies on automated updates or bulk management.
Following that API deprecation, Google began rolling out the removal of the Q and A section from live Business Profile listings December 3, 2025. Starting on that date the public looking at your profile will begin to see the familiar Questions and Answers disappear from Search and Maps. The full removal is expected to take place over the course of one to three months, meaning the Q and A section could be completely gone across all listings by early 2026.
What This Means For Business Owners
For business owners this change is significant. The Q and A section was a familiar place where curious customers could get quick answers to common questions about your products, services, hours, accessibility, returns, booking policies and more before they decided to engage further. It served as both a tool for customer service and a source of local search content that could influence visibility and conversions.
As the world shifts away from this feature customers will still have questions, but they will find answers through other means. They may look to your website, your Google Business Profile description, your reviews, your social media pages or even search results that pull AI generated answers. Each of these alternatives has its own strengths and weaknesses but none are as directly tied to your local Business Profile listing as the old Q and A section was.
Google’s reasons for sunsetting the Q and A feature reflect a larger strategy to streamline local search and integrate AI driven systems like Ask Maps and generative summaries. From Google’s perspective, this can reduce inconsistent or outdated content and speed up response times. For business owners it means you lose some control over how information is displayed on the search results page. The good news is that you will no longer be subjected to third-party responses, which were often incorrect or incomplete.
In the meantime, having a solid digital presence across Search, Maps and your own site is more important than ever.
